Stuck with flooring

The type of flooring you choose for your home can have a big impact on the look and feel of each room. Researching your options can sometimes be frustrating and time consuming. That’s why we’ve come up with four ideas that just might provide you with a solution to your flooring problem. 

Porcelain

Porcelain tiles are made from a dense clay, they are baked at a high temperature which removes almost all the moisture and makes them hard and dense. This makes them tough and long-lasting. They are suitable for high-traffic areas such as entrance hallways and in kitchens because they are tougher than ceramic tiles, which can crack if something heavy is dropped onto the floor. Their moisture resistance also makes them idea for bathrooms.

The tiles come in a number of finishes; you can choose from gloss, matt, satin or metallic. Styles include terrazzo, wood, rustic, patterned and geometric.  Be inspired by Edwardian townhouses, classic mosaic designs or modern Hexagon. 

Polished Concrete

Polished concrete is perfect if you want low-maintenance flooring with an attractive glossy finish. It’s a sustainable material which will give your home a modern feel. It’s easy to clean and durable. If it’s looked after it can last a lifetime. 

It can be stained or dyed and customised with a variety of patterns and designs.  New concrete flooring can be treated with addition of porcelain chips, glass or granite for a decorative effect. Nobody else will have your flooring style. It will be unique.

Wood

Whether your home is modern, contemporary or traditional a wood floor has timeless appeal. It helps to create warmth without the need for carpet. You can choose from a wide range of wood including cherry, maple, oak, mahogany, elm and walnut. Each one has a distinctive look in a light or dark tone to suit your décor. 

If you want a rustic look with an original appearance, choose hand scraped wood flooring. Each plank is scraped by hand before oil or lacquer is added which means no two planks are the same. 

Parquet flooring is also made from solid wood, but it is easier to lay and less effected by moisture and temperature. You can choose various designs like herringbone or chevron in light or dark wood stains.

Limestone

Limestone is a durable, natural stone. Tiles can be laid in any room in a home, but it is particularly popular in kitchens, bathrooms and on terraces and patios. This is because it is resistant to mould and bacteria. If you want to harmonise your indoor and outdoor tiles, then limestone is the perfect choice. 

Tiles are available in earthy tones like grey, yellow, cream and brown. Darker shades contain clay or grains of sand. Choose a tumbled surface to create an aged effect or polished for a smooth surface. You If you don’t want a traditional square style, using different coloured tiles will create a pattern such as a chevron or harlequin style.
